Somali Pirates Repelled from Maersk Alabama by Sonic Blast and Small Arms Fire.

"When a speedboat filled with ballsy Somali pirates attacked the M / V Maersk Alabama for a second time in seven months yesterday, they were met not only with return fire from a private security team on board the container ship, but also with a high-pitched aimed screech from a Long-Range Acoustic Device.

The ship was also attacked and boarded in April, leading to a high-seas standoff between pirates who Kidnapped the captain, Richard Phillips, and the U.S. Navy. The pirates, trapped with their hostage is a skiff that ran out of fuel, came out on the losing end of that encounter when Navy SEAL Snipers took out three of them and captured a fourth.

Say what you will about Somali pirates, but it's clear that they are not easily deterred - except maybe by an earsplitting Concentrated beam of noise that can render its victims both deaf and blind.

During yesterday's attack, Which occurred 560 nautical miles from the northern coast of Somalia, four pirates in a skiff came within 300 yards of the vessel. But this time the Maersk Alabama was prepared, having embarked a squad of heavily armed security guards immediately returned fire Thurs.
