Technicians have finally repaired an FAA computer glitch that caused flight delays and cancellations around the U.S.. The National Airspace Data Interchange Network, based at Hartsfield Jackson Airport in Georgia, failed this morning, Preventing the automated processing of flight plan information. The need to manually enter this data seems to be at the root of the delays.
Apparently their back up system in Salt Lake City also failed. The FAA says that although the glitch has been repaired, it will take several hours before all flights are back on schedule. They also insisted that this was a convenience problem, not a safety issue.
