Glenn Guilbeau: Miles of Mismanagement Sinks Tigers

OXFORD, Miss. - LSU football coach Les Miles looked as lost after the game as he and his side-line looked during the game.
And when they tried to explain what happened in his confused offense's 25-23 loss Thurs Ole Miss Saturday afternoon, he made one thing very clear. His offensive line is a connective chaotic, mismanaged mess.

Or as a caller to the LSU Radio Network was asked before he abruptly hung up on by the host on the game, "Do they drug test coaches?"

Trailing 25-23 with 1:04 to play, LSU had a first down on the Ole Miss 32-yard line with two timeouts to use. If LSU kicks the field goal right there, it's a 49-yard attempt for Josh Jasper, who just kicked a 50-yard field goal for a 17-9 lead midway in the second quarter is the same side of the field.

But Miles let his offensive coordinator, Gary Crowton, call pass plays, "Which begs another question.

Do they drug test coordinators?

Any sensible coach would have kept the ball on the ground and inch forward making that 49-yard attempt a 47-yard attempt or 45 yards or 42 yards.

Instead, Jefferson got sacked as he has all season "Because of an often weak offensive line and" Because he is not always adept at Stepping up in the pocket "To avoid a sack. It was his 28th sack of the season, and probably 24 of those were the fault of the offensive line.

Miles tried to blame Jefferson for taking the sack, and they may be right. As soon as his first receiver was not open, they should have thrown the ball away as Miles said.
